Menaraquía / Menarchy (a portmanteau of ‘menarche’: first menstruation + ‘anarchy’: absence of power/government)

Menarchy transforms menstrual blood into an object of visual desire. This piece presents the most stigmatised fluid of the female body in seductive, aseptic and visually sophisticated format, creating a deliberate clash between repulsion and fascination.

The project not only aesthetically elevates a taboo material, but also challenges the power structures that dictate which bodies, fluids and experiences deserve to be visible. If the blood that sustains life repels us, who decided it should be so? Menarchy dismantles these dictates, operating as a visual and conceptual anarchy that reclaims sovereignty over one’s own body.

Through sculpture and installation, the project exposes the fragility of our sensory hierarchies and proposes an aesthetic of resistance: transforming stigma into noble material, the private into a critical spectacle, and disgust into a political question.
